About
I am evolutionary anthropologist with broad research interests in the areas of Central and East Africa Middle Stone Age (MSA) archaeology, archeological geochemistry, remote sensing and GIS, experimental archaeology, and the origins of behavioral modernity. Specifically, my dissertation research focuses on understanding how humans interacted with the landscape to acquire, modify, and use the ochreous minerals (iron oxides and oxyhydroxides) which have been found in MSA sites across Africa. I am pursuing this investigation through laboratory research in association with the University of Missouri Research Reactor and through field work with the Olorgesailie Middle Stone Age Project and the Malawi Earlier-Middle Stone Age Project (MEMSAP).
